With barely 20 months until the 2027 general election, a number of Cabinet Secretaries are facing significant challenges. President William Ruto is facing a major challenge in his bid for a second term in office, with growing opposition figures including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i.
Members of the Ruto cabinet must play their cards carefully if they want to avoid becoming politically irrelevant following the 2027 election. One of them is the Defense government secretary, Soipan Tuya, who resigned from her nominated senator status in 2022 to take up a government role.
The former Narok County Women Representative ran for governor before stepping down in favor of Patrick Ole Ntutu.
And now, with 2027 approaching, should Tuya renounce her CS job to seek an elective seat? If she remains in the cabinet and chooses not to fight for any political post in 2027, the 44-year-old CS risks spending five years out of office, especially if Ruto is defeated in the next general election.
