President Donald Trump escalated his long-running feud with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) on Thursday, demanding that the House of Representatives expel the Democratic lawmaker whom he described as a "bum" and a "loser in life" plagued by "Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS).
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump endorsed comments from conservative commentator Mark Levin and accused Raskin of repeatedly attempting to undermine his presidency through impeachment efforts and his role on the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Trump wrote:"Something should be done about people like this who do bad things, but always come up on the short end because of their illegal or unscrupulous behavior, and hurt our Country in the process. I agree with Mark Levin when he says to, EXPEL THE BUM. Congress can never be great with people like this, who suffer massively from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), casting their vote of HATE!"
He continued by criticizing Raskin's record:"Jamie Raskin, a Loser in Life, who worked endlessly during my First Term to impeach me, and failed miserably, wasting the Country’s money, time, and effort, will guaranteed be trying to do it again, despite one of the most successful Presidencies in History."
Trump also referenced Raskin's service on the January 6 committee, calling its members "Political Hacks and Thugs," and claimed that a preemptive pardon issued by then-President Joe Biden shielded Raskin from potential legal consequences.
The post quickly gained traction online, with supporters amplifying calls to "send the traitor packing."
Rep. Jamie Raskin, a constitutional law professor before entering Congress, served as one of the lead House managers during Trump's second impeachment trial in 2021 related to the events of January 6.
He was also a prominent member of the bipartisan House Select Committee investigating the Capitol attack.
Raskin has been a consistent critic of Trump, participating in earlier impeachment proceedings during Trump's first term.
In response to Trump's latest attack, Raskin has previously dismissed such rhetoric, suggesting the straightforward way to avoid impeachment is to refrain from impeachable conduct.
The feud highlights deep partisan divisions that persist into Trump's current term.
With midterm elections approaching, speculation about potential future impeachment attempts if Democrats regain House control has intensified political rhetoric on both sides.
Reactions and ContextSupporters of Trump view Raskin's past actions as politically motivated overreach that wasted taxpayer resources and failed to derail Trump's political career.
Expulsion from the House is rare and requires a two-thirds vote, making it an uphill battle even with Republican majorities.
