Shirilla Under Fire Again After Prison Calls About Male Attention Spark Backlash

A newly surfaced prison phone call involving convicted inmate Mackenzie Shirilla has sparked fresh controversy after Dominic Russo’s sister, Christine Russo, publicly criticized Shirilla for discussing male admirers while serving her sentence.

According to recently released recordings and reporting, Shirilla who is serving two concurrent 15-years-to-life sentences for the 2022 crash that killed her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan can be heard speaking to her mother about multiple men who have been contacting her while incarcerated.

The conversations reportedly included references to romantic interest and ongoing communication with male pen pals and visitors.

Christine Russo, speaking out after reviewing the calls, expressed frustration over what she described as Shirilla’s focus on attention from men rather than accountability for the deaths of her brother and his friend.

In her comments, she accused Shirilla of being dismissive of the gravity of her situation and criticized the tone of the conversations as inappropriate given the severity of the case.

The renewed backlash comes as Shirilla’s prison behavior continues to attract public scrutiny. Since her conviction, she has remained a focal point of online debate and true-crime coverage, with multiple reports detailing disciplinary issues, communication violations, and alleged misconduct inside the correctional facility.

Her case gained renewed attention following documentary coverage that revisited the fatal 2022 crash and its legal aftermath.

For the Russo family, the latest revelations have reopened emotional wounds tied to the loss of Dominic.

Christine has been one of the most vocal family members, frequently speaking out against both Shirilla and her family’s continued public defense of her actions. She has also been involved in advocacy efforts aimed at raising awareness of victims’ rights and ensuring accountability in similar cases.

Shirilla’s supporters, however, argue that public reaction to her prison communications often lacks context and overlooks the realities of life behind bars, where monitored phone calls and limited social interaction are common.

They maintain that she continues to pursue appeals and insists she did not intentionally cause the crash.
